Checkmaity

Privacy, in plain language.

What stays on your device, what we share to make Maity work, and the choices you have along the way.

Your games, your choices

Checkmaity helps you review chess games and learn with Maity, an AI coach. You can use the app without creating an email-and-password account. We still use an installation identifier to provide coaching, measure your free allowance, and verify your subscription.

Your game library, imported profile, saved chess usernames, preferences, and saved explanations are stored on your device. When you choose an online feature, some information leaves your device as described below.

When you ask Maity

With your permission, the app sends your selected game (PGN), position, question, and recent conversation to our server. We use positions, moves, your question, and recent conversation with OpenAI to generate a chess explanation. A PGN can contain player usernames and other game details. Please do not put passwords, payment details, or sensitive personal information in your questions.

We record which games have used a coached review and retain selected generated explanations so they can be reopened. These records are associated with your installation identifier. Routine chat and targeted explanations may be stored differently; turning off AI sharing stops new coaching requests, but does not itself delete information already processed.

OpenAI processes requests under its API data policies. Provider retention and security processing can apply. We do not promise that information is immediately deleted by every service. You can decline AI coaching and keep using your local library and board tools.

Importing public chess games

When you import from Chess.com or Lichess, your chosen public username is sent to that service to find games and your public profile. Your public name and available profile photo are cached on your device. We do not ask for your chess-site password. Those services may receive connection information, such as your IP address, and apply their own privacy policies.

Imported games can include opponents’ public usernames, ratings, dates, results, and moves. Only import content you are entitled to use. Local engine analysis does not need to send your entire library to an AI provider.

Subscriptions and service operation

Apple processes iOS subscription payments. RevenueCat helps us verify purchases, renewals, and restores using transaction information and an app user identifier. We do not receive your full payment-card details from Apple.

Our service stores installation records, review allowances, and rate-limit information to operate coaching and prevent abuse. Hosting and database providers process information on our behalf. Connection and diagnostic information may be processed to keep the service available and investigate failures.

How long information stays

Local information stays on your device until you remove it or clear the app’s storage, subject to your device’s backup settings. Removing the app does not cancel a subscription or automatically delete records held by our service or payment providers.

We keep service records for as long as needed to provide the service, maintain purchase and usage records, resolve problems, and meet applicable obligations. Selected explanations are reused for up to 30 days; older records are removed during subsequent cleanup and may remain longer before that cleanup runs. Payment and AI providers have their own retention practices.

Your privacy choices

You can decline AI sharing before your first coaching request, and change that choice in Account → AI & your data. Withdrawing permission prevents new AI coaching requests. It does not remove your game library or cancel your subscription.

Use Account → Delete account and data to remove your guest account, local games, settings, review usage and saved explanations. We also request deletion of your RevenueCat customer record. Deletion does not cancel an Apple subscription or remove records Apple or AI providers retain under their own policies. Cancel your subscription in Apple Subscriptions to stop future charges.

Contact us to request access or correction of service-held personal information, or help with deletion. We may need information that helps us find the relevant installation or purchase; never send passwords or full payment details. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to object, restrict processing, request a copy, or complain to a data-protection authority.

Children and changes to this policy

Checkmaity is not intended for children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, please contact us so we can investigate. If you are under the age of majority where you live, involve a parent or guardian before using online coaching or making purchases.

We update this policy when the app or its data practices change. Material changes to AI data sharing will require a new choice in the app. Last updated: September 28, 2026.
